OMFG...if I see ANYONE with one of these in ANY vehicle, I will personally mock and ridicule them EVERY DAY for the rest of their natural life.

That will actually REDUCE your power and mileage. All you're doing is putting a restriction in your intake tract. Also, there's no fuel in the air in that point so there's nothing to mix by swirling. To kick it off these trucks have GM's Vortec head design, which swirls the air/fuel mixture as it enters the cylinder already.

If you buy that you have no place on an internet automotive forum.

On the topic of vortec, the head does all the swirling? Did the original intake have anything to do with it?

No...because there's no fuel until right before the air/fuel mixture goes into the cylinder...it's past the majority of the intake tract at that point. If you google images, the vortec head is really just a continuation of GM's early 90's swirl head design. The early design swirled the mixture a bit (the fuel injection injects right before the cylinder, so nothing in the intake will affect the mixture), and the Vortec is just a more refined design. The head shape is actually vaguely heart shaped and swirls/mixes the air/fuel very well before combustion.
