no electrics, battery good
« on: January 09, 2010, 08:31:21 PM »
I went to start my truck this morning, turned the key and lost power to everything, no lights,no dash. not even the interior light.
I checked the battery, it was reading 13 volts but I put a new one in anyway.
I checked both sides of the megafuse and both read 13 volts. I bridged the two terminals to make sure it wasn't the mega fuse, still nothing.
I replaced all relavent fuses in the fuse box, still nothing.
I took the battery leads off, hooked them together to drain the computer, got power back, ;D turned the key and lost power again. :'(
Does anyone have a clue what's wrong? ???

sounds like a bad BCM, ill have to look at a  diagram tho. did the power just drop after you turned the key or did you get it to crank over then it died?

The power dropped as soon as I turned the key. The engine didn't get a chance to turn over. I left the battery leads hooked together overnight as a last hope still haven't tried it this morning but will soon.

Well, I reconnected the battery and it looks like I will be towing it to the dealership tomorrow morning.  >:(  I hope it's nothing too serious.
The one thing I've noticed about these sites is that once anyone gets their problem fixed they never repost to tell what the problem was.
I will repost once I find out what the problem was in hopes it will help anyone else.

I had a similar problem, I just charged the battery for about 8 hrs and it was fine.

Charging it wouldn't do anything since the battery was reading 13 volts which means it is fully charged. I also replaced the battery for a new one that was also reading 13 volts. Your battery must have been either weak or completely discharged where as both of mine were fine.

:-[ Talk about overlooking the obvious. :-[ I got my truck back from the dealership today, and do I ever feel embarassed. I put on new painted battery cable ends when I installed an amp one week ago. One painted red and one painted black. I cleaned the battery terminals as well as the insides of the new ends before I installed them. The one thing I forgot to clean was the area where the cables clamp into the new ends. The dealership said all they had to do was clean the paint out of that area and everything was fine. I guess it's a lesson I will never forget.  :-[ :-[ :-[

You'll never make that mistake twice. I had a simalar problem with my old car, I used a different bolt to connect the BCM which wasn't long enogh, leading into hours of headaches. Sometimes you overlook the little things.

Never hurts to put a little Kopr-Kote on there...dissimilar metals corrode when they're in contact with each other.
