if you are going store bought then I prefer Volont or AEM because I believe in a closed airbox system.
everyone likes their K&N systems tho too :D

dont forget he's an 07 and has the same wack stock setup as me Chris :p  hence home built system is a no go without headaches!

aswell for the 07-10 Colorado's i dont think there is even another brand available besides K&N ?  i just bought my K&N a couple weeks ago... and couldn't find any other brands that offer it for the 07+ colly's. my K&N system has worked well so far though, BUT it only connects to your resonator box, it does not replace it, apparently that's another part you can order as an add on OR just take a 3 wide 6-8 inch long piece of tubing, throw in barb fitting + small hose extension for the breather and it'll work good, it's definately worth the trouble to replace the resonator hose length, the sound actually gets MUCH louder and of course slightly more HP.
I have not had the chance to get it in the mud yet though, BUT you can get filter wrap accessories that are dust/water resistant to help your filter life and a bit of extra assurance no shit will get into your engine!.

i'm still waiting for my large filter cover... so will find out if it's gonna get all screwed up this weekend when i go mudding without it :p lol

I got the Volant Intake for the 3.7L. It was a PITA to install. The only thing that fit right was the airbox. The air duct to the throttle body was about 6" too long, So I cut it to length. The rubber sleeve that holds the air duct to the throttle body was impossible to install. I bought a 3x3" flexible rubber coupling to fix this. The hose that connects from the air duct to the valve cover wasnt nearly long enough. Also had to cut a hole in the airbox to connect the smog pump to the airbox. What a piece of crap.

Let me get this traight, so for the 2007 colly's theres very few CAI that actualy work:
Airaid CAI 200-142
Volant CAI or CAI high performance
K&N 63 or 77 series
Can anyone confirm this?

It seems that most of these need as much alteration as it would to build your own as well as paint options are unlimited. We customise our trucks to be different than everyone else. So for that reason I wonder why everyone wouldn't build their own, paint their own, and customise their own.

the K&N doesn't NEED any alterations, it works just fine the way it comes, i just opted for the covers for the filters just as you would still have to purchase building your own, the box on the 08 does not have a lip nor enough space to house a proper cone filter, you also would have to rig up an additional smaller filter for the emissions box or whatever the hell the 2nd hose is technically called.

sooo to build your own ya gotta build yourself a heatsheild or box, attach the secondary hose + small filter to the box / heatsheild, aswell as do all the other steps needed to build a CAI for a pre 07.... obviously it can be done, but not worth the headache ... atleast to me lol.

this is what my stock box looked like when i had it in

I wouldnt say they dont work. They just dont fit. Some alterations and cussing later, it fits and works great.

I know Volant also sells a couple scoop  attachments for the CAI box, are they worth it?

The scoop is pretty expensive, like $135 I think. Its not even a good fit and it was actually only designed for the 3.5L plus you gotta cut out a piece of your plastic skid plate to fit it. Even then the mouth of the scoop isn't fully exposed. Your best bet is come up with your own design which would be far superior to volants garbage anyday.

If you go mudding make sure you have a closed box system. If you do duck your hood under the water briefly, your box will catch the water and give you time to get out before you suck water into your engine (when your box fills up).

Heres something I thought I'd throw in the mix, I was looking at Keystones goodhood functional ram air system with attached CAI. My question is, would this be unadvisable for light offroading?

personally i've only used k&n filters. this next go around i may go to a dry filter and use a sock over it to keep out that much more stuff. as for the tube i made my own as well as about 15 others for the local members and guys across the nation. no codes but the only trouble i have experienced is the 08 and newer trucks require a smaller maf diameter but that's easily fixed.
