Auto Insurance in BC?
« on: August 28, 2010, 06:14:30 PM »
For the boys in BC who is the better insurance company? ICBC or Canadian Direct?

I ask cause I use ICBC and they have threathed to raise my rates cause i have to many comperhensive claims( I can`t help myself if someone else damages my truck ain`t my fault).  Also everytime i walk in there it is always a bleeping battle with them. I am thinking to go with Canadian Direct next month when I renew my insurance. Anybody use Canadian Direct? How is there claims handle and coverage?

X2 I want to switch. I hate ICBC and am willing to pay someone else even if its more expensive. Let us know if you go with them.

When I first got insured on the colly, I went with ICBC. That was a mistake, they cost me an arm and a leg.

Thing is you still ahve to get your basic coverage through them, but you can get your supplementary/comprehensive coverage through a private company. I went with Canadian Direct, however they offer over the phone only service and the phone lines are always busy. Plus claims through CD are a pain in the ass. I am currently insured with Coast Capital. THey offer a very competitive rate and a fantastic service (face to face). I believe I will renew with them again this year. Canadian DIrect will always have the lowest rates because they don't have to deal with having an office, just a call centre. Other issue is Canadian Direct is not an autoplan member, therefore you ahve to make your basic insurance payment to ICBC and then a second payment to Canadian Direct. WIth COast Capital (autoplan member) I made one payment to them and they take care of paying ICBC'S share.

Hope that helped.

Today I did called Canadian Direct and Coast Capital.

First you gotta have a clear five year no claim to your name and the if the truck is modded they will review your application. I refused there plan cause they wanted more premium on the comperhensive making my insurance out the roof. Hung up on CD.

As for Coast Capital well they offered me everything I got and plus roadside and loss of use for $40 less then my yearly cost with ICBC without roadside and loss of use. I was approved for there insurance they have rules also but not as strict as CD. So I will be getting another quote when I renew my insurance in October.

I'Ve been very happy with them so far, besides I like talking to a person when buying insurance, not some generic person in a call centre. I'm considering going with them on my other insurances.

Na they tried 2 mill but I ain`t interested. They consider 1 million a low figure. Whats the point ICBC nickel and dime claims as much as they can. ICBC`s customer service is well below shit. Sorry for the ranting ....................ICBC...................lol!

Wow i feel sorry for you all! but i guess you'll all either hate me or have tuns of questions for me after i say i am an Insurance Broker. I personal would NEVER go for Canada Direct! Yes they maybe a little cheaper but do you want to know why...it's because they use low end repair shops in which are sketchy at best. Not to mention do you really want to talk to an audimated system? I sure as hell wouldn't. As far as the 5 years no claims and having a modified vechicle that shouldn't make to shits of a differance. Yes you do have to list your AT FAULT claim with in the past 5 years but not comp claims. I say for people with under 10yrs driving experience ICBC is the way to go because it is far cheaper. However if you over 10yrs driving experience and HAVEN'T had an AT FAULT claim then go for Family Insurance Company. They are underwritten be Economical Insurance Company and are great to deal with (and yes they are cheaper than ICBC with WAY better coverage). If any of you are interested in going private, go for Family Insurance Compan. There policy's can be found at any Hub International Barton Insurance Brokers.
